About Ben White
Ben White 1934-2025, was a well loved member of Hastings artistic community. He taught art for many years in local schools, having trained in St. Martins School of Art, London.
Ben was active in The Riviera Gallery Association, Hastings. He was also an early member of South Coast Artists, and the Arts Forum. He had a generous open-minded approach to art. His own work was based on drawing, play of light and dark, and a fluid line, often translated into printmaking, principally lino-cuts.
In retirement from teaching, he went back to art school locally, rekindling joy in painting, lush use of colour and developing his etching and printmaking. Ben had close ties with the Beacon where had a printmaking studio and held weekly art groups. As well as being an artist, Ben was a jazz guitarist, enjoying taking part in the local music scene over many decades.
